Stray Kids’ ‘Oddinary’ Tops Billboard’s 200 Albums Chart – Billboard

South Korean pop group Stray Kids debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart (dated April 2) with odd, marking not only the act’s first chart debut, but its first chart entry. The seven-song set, recorded mostly in Korean, debuts at the top of the chart with 110,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending March 24, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. Of that sum, album sales are 103,000 – the biggest sales week for an album in 2022.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States based on multimetric consumption measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals 1 album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 official ad-supported audio and video streams or 1,250 paid/on-demand subscription generated songs from a album. Of oddof the 110,000 equivalent album units earned, album sales include 103,000; SEA units include 6,500 (equivalent to 10.09 million official on-demand streams of songs from the set); and TEA units include 500. The album was released on March 18 via JYP/Imperial/Republic Records.

Although Stray Kids has never previously appeared on the Billboard 200, the group has landed 10 previous top 10 efforts on the World Albums Chart (which ranks the most popular world music albums of the week). The act formed in 2017 on a South Korean reality TV show of the same name. odd is Stray Kids’ first U.S. release through JYP’s partnership with Imperial/Republic. In 2021, the pact landed two top 10s on the Billboard 200 for the group TWICE (The taste of love: the 10th mini-albumpeaking at No. 6, and Formula of love: O+T=No. 3).

odd also debuts at No. 1 on the Top Selling Albums chart with the biggest sales week of any album in 2022, with 103,000 copies sold. Almost all of that was sold via CDs, while only 2,500 were sold via digital album. The set was not available on any other configuration (such as vinyl LP or cassette).

Like many K-pop releases, the album’s CD setup was released in collectible packages (seven in total, including a Target-exclusive edition), each with a standard set of internal paper elements and random items (such as photo cards and mini-posters). ).

odd is the 13th mostly non-English-language album to reach No. 1. The last two No. 1 albums, mostly in a language other than English, were entirely in Spanish by Bad Bunny El Ultimo Tower of the World (the first all-Spanish No. 1 album; chart dated December 12, 2020) and BTS’ primarily Korean language TO BE (5 December 2020). Of the 13 leaders who were recorded primarily in a language other than English, five were recorded by BTS.

On March 18, the set was re-released in a deluxe digital and streaming edition (along with three additional tracks), and was first released on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette configurations. The album was previously only available through streaming services and digital download. It debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the chart dated December 25, 2021.

Charli XCX collects her highest charting album of all time and her first top 10 on the Billboard 200, as her latest release, crash, debuted at No. 7 with 31,500 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales include 19,000, SEA units include 12,000 (equivalent to 15.6 million official on-demand streams of the set’s songs), and TEA units include 500.

crash debuted at the top of the Official UK Albums Chart and the Australian ARIA Albums Chart – the singer-songwriter’s first No. 1 in both countries.
