Five songs that celebrate India; The Republic Day Reading List

The Constitution of India came into force and the country became a republic on 26and January 1950. This day therefore has great significance for all Indians. This historic day is celebrated with great patriotism as Indians gaze at tableaux honoring the country’s vibrant culture and valiant military forces in the Republic Day Parade.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has dampened celebrations this year, one can still celebrate the day with loved ones by listening to patriotic songs. Bollywood has always been a lifesaver in this regard. From singer Lata Mangeskar’s “Ae Mere Watan ke Logon” to “Meri Desh Ki Dharti”, there are a number of songs that celebrate all that makes India great. On this 73rd Republic Day, here is a list of modern patriotic songs that celebrate the nation.

‘Teri Mitti’ from ‘Kesari’

‘Teri Mitti’ is a soul track from the 2019 release ‘Kesari’. It has a touch of Punjabi with strong lyrics and soulful music. The song celebrates the sacrifice of soldiers. It would remind you of the countless lives that have been lost fighting for India today. The song was written by lyricist Manoj Muntashir, composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee and sung by Punjabi singer B Praak. The female version of this track is sung by Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra.

‘Ae Watan’ from ‘Raazi’

‘Ae Watan’ is a patriotic song from the soundtrack of ‘Raazi’, an Indian feature film released in 2018. Arijit Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan sang the song. The music was composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, and the lyrics were written by Gulzar and Allama Iqbal. Alia Bhatt as Sehmat Khan appears in the song’s music video. It speaks of the bond of each one with his country.

‘Ye Jo Desh Hai Tera’ from ‘Swades’

‘Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera’ is from the movie ‘Swades’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Gayatri Joshi. Composer AR Rahman composed and sang the track for the film directed by Asutosh Gowariker. The lyrics of the song were written by Javed Akhtar. The song from the 2004 film is about the homeland one is from and how the bond with one’s land is unbreakable.

‘Vande Mataram’ from ‘ABCD 2’

‘Vande Mataram’ is a track from the movie ‘Any Body Can Dance 2’ released in 2015. The lyrics of the song were written by Badshah and Rimi Nique. Badshah, Daler Mehndi, Divya Kumar and Tanishka Sanghvi sang the song. It celebrates the essence of India.

‘Rank De Basanti (title)’

Sony Music Entertainment released the soundtrack for the 2006 film, with music composed by AR Rahman and lyrics, in Hindi and English, by Prasoon Joshi and rapper Blaaze. Sung by Daler Mehendi, the song which portrays the rich culture of India. Combined with Punjabi beats, it’s definitely a song to lift your spirits.
